Late
by John Tustin
I stay up as late as I can at night
so when I finally do go to bed
I can wrap my arm around my pillow
and wrap my mind around you
and have sort-of dreams that we
live on any street and do small
average things together and
my eyes flutter and I sleep
beside an open book yup
a locked window and I can’t
escape until I fall asleep
and into you. So good
night and I’ll see you soon
and you’ll see me but the
window is still locked
and I know it’s late but
I hope not too late.
